Bronx resident Alexis Adams was sentenced to two years in prison for assaulting a Metro-North Railroad conductor, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced on Thursday, Jan. 11.
According to the DA's Office, on Oct. 11, 2021, just after 6 p.m., Adams became involved in a verbal dispute with the conductor over train fare. After the fight, Adams then hit the conductor in her face with a pumpkin before running from the train at the Mount Vernon West Station, leaving her purse and ID behind.
The conductor was later taken to a nearby hospital and treated for cuts around her eye and ear caused by the pumpkin stem.
After an investigation, Adams was arrested by MTA Police. She pleaded guilty to second-degree assault on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023.
After her prison term is complete, she will be required to serve three years of post-release supervision.
MTA Chief of Police John Mueller commented on the sentencing, saying, "Any attack against an MTA worker is unacceptable, and this case demonstrates again that perpetrators of such assaults will face justice. We are grateful to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office for ensuring successful prosecution and for its continuing collaboration to protect Metro-North employees who are serving the public."
